The schools in Morgan Hill are highly regarded and draw many families with small children to the area. A tax bond was passed in 1991 to renovate and expand the schools, with most of the work done in 1993.

The Morgan Hill Unified School District serves over 9,000 students in nine elementary schools (grades K-6), two middle schools (grades 7-9), one high school (grades 10 - 12), one continuation high school, and a community adult school. The district covers 296 square miles, including Morgan Hill, a portion of San Jose, the community of San Martin and unincorporated areas of Santa Clara County. Schools are above state and national norms in student performance.

Many schools in the district receive competitive grants for special projects in the areas of educational technology, innovative instructional practices and "restructuring" efforts. Two schools have been recognized by the State of California as Distinguished Schools.

Nearby IBM has "adopted" the school district and helps with advice and programs while other businesses help individual schools. Several of the schools have won awards. The schools generally rank in the 60th to 80th percentiles, indicating strong family and community support. In 1991 the San Francisco Chronicle, using schools, crime and home prices "identified" the 16 best family towns in the Bay Area. Morgan Hill was the only town in Santa Clara County that made the list.
